Youth Celebration

Saturday 27th July 2009, the CM with the youth of the movement celebrated youth month by hosting an event.
The purpose of the youth event was to revive the youth section of the movement and to celebrate being youth in society and the movement itself.

The event brought about many challenges in a way that our target for the event was youth but to our surprise child members joined at the event and gave us some input for the youth.

We had over 150 participants both youth and child members. We had our areas present namely; Nyanga, Gugulethu, Mitchell's Plain, Khayelitsha and Factreton and we also had our groups from our areas.
The outline of the program was very good and the participation also was good, as part of the program we had a motivational speaker who was part of the launching of the youth section, the highlights of the day was the presentation on the proposed document which was later adopted by the youth at the event.

The cultural program was also visible in the program where areas showed us what they are made of. Drama, dance, poetry and even a debate between the coordinator and the participants took place, all the areas represented their groups and schools very well and also the child members also gave their views about the youth section.

A task team was elected from all the areas and two members would represent an area. The role of the task team would be to assist with the coordination of the youth and the Anti  Racism and Xenophobia Campaign and also to take what they've learnt to their respected schools and groups. They will also work closely with the coordination team of the youth section.

Also at the event it was also decided that the task team would come together and discuss a program of action for them to implement the program and the campaign.

The event was a great success and we look forward to building a stronger youth.
